E-learning Awards 2007

10 September 2007

Well, didn't see this one coming!

Can Studios are very pleased to announce that an elearning course recently developed for the Environment Agency has been short listed for the 2007 E-learning Awards in the category 'excellence in the production of learning content'.

The course provides an introduction to the subject of Water Resources Law.

Keen to avoid the target audience being subjected to a potential ‘dull as dish-water’ experience, we devised a stylised theme for the solution which we hoped would draw users in.

Borrowing from the ‘hard-boiled’ private detective genre popularised by Raymond Chandler, we infused story telling, humour and characterisation within a contextualised setting to provide a backdrop to the learning.

To our delight the Agency were keen to try something a little different.

We have now been summoned to London to put our case to the panel of judges.

BETT Awards

19 January 2007

This seems to be coming something of a habit. The awards bash on the second evening at BETT resulted in GCSE Science Whiteboard Resources finishing runner up in the category for Digital Content; Secondary Core.  Can Studios developed the title (alongside GCSE Maths Whiteboard Resources) in partnership with Collins Education in 2006.

Despite leaving ‘sans gong’ our developers spent some time on publishers stands during Friday, admiring several of the title displays we’ve worked on over the last year.
BETTer late than never

18 January 2007

Those of us who get out occasionally came together in London late last week for BETT. As ever the show was immense and despite completing several laps of both halls we came away having only scratched the surface.

The focus of the event for many came in the wake of the BECTa Learning Platform announcement. Those vendors awarded Learning Platform Supplier status prominently displayed the seal of approval on their respective stands. From what we were able to gauge from those partners we were able to catch up with, enquiries from LEA’s and schools were overwhelming and sustained over each of the five days.

The selection process has however not passed without controversy.

Discussions with BECTa approved vendors concerning Canvas integration were productive and Beta previews of the forthcoming assessment authoring components solicited some great feedback. As a team we are looking forward to working with partners in the learning platforms market for schools throughout 2007 and beyond.

Well here it is, our brand new site, and just in time for Christmas. Many thanks to Dave and Stan who have managed to squeeze this in a long side their busy client schedules. If things look a bit thin on the ground don't worry there's plenty more content to come...
